What is the best technique to prevent slugs from hanging onto extrusions when it is necessary to pierce/extrude with the same punch? .033 Galvanized material….118 I.D. extrusion…thank you
Thanks for writing; there are a few options to resolve this problem.
1. Design a spring loaded piercing die insert inside the extrude hole. Hole will be pierced first before the extrusion takes place.
2. Grind a “v” shape at the tip of the pierce / extrude punch. Please take note; the ‘v’ cut will form a small “leg” at each side of the extruded hole. The total extruded height will be higher with the two extra ‘legs’.
3. To completely prevent the slug been follows to the extrusion, the better way is still pre-pierce the hole.
